2025 Roster Construction
MeanGreenZen replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Florida just won the national championship with a backcourt of Walter Clayton, a SENIOR at his second college and probably the best point guard in the country and Alijah Martin, who is almost 24 years old and already made a Final Four run at FAU. We need to bring in a guard who can score 15 a night with 6-8 assists. Who is more likely to do that… A 22-year old who averaged 15 & 6 in a similar college conference last season? Or some high school kid who has barely played against anyone on the other side of puberty? -
Late. We gotta wait for all the guys who don’t get what they thought they were gonna get in the transfer portal to come to terms with that and be willing to take what we can offer. There will be value available.

Cheer for the name on the front. It's the only name that matters.
-
Not hating on Brown, just wild to read that a college LB with 50 career tackles has an agent. Is that production really worthy of an NIL deal large enough that an agent is needed to help negotiate?
-
When was this last a year’s roster finalized? Curious if we should expect the timeline this year.

Meh a linebacker on one of the worst defenses in the country I think they will be fine.

He would help bring asses to the pit.

I can't stand this continued charade, that college athletics makes money. With close to 80% having their primary funding being the school and student fees, there may be 20% of schools that generate a true (not student funded) profit.

Yeah that's what I was thinking is that he seemed like a shoe-in for Iowa State -

You are going WAY BACK into I-AA days, the AD to whom you refer was Richard McDuffie who was from a small Connecticut school and ended up in SE Missouri with his girlfriend who had been married to the head of the North Texas police. I was on the search committee who chose Rick Villareal. John Thornton the faculty athletic rep who chaired the committee was very capable. We used several meetings to pick our candidate who was definitely a better hire than any national guru could have made. -
What will we do? All of our players are departing us!

He would be a good add!

No worries. I was looking at 247 which doesn't show him in the portal yet, but found him on Verbal Commits. Yes, would love to have him. He could slide immediately into Lorient's spot.

Of those presently contributing to NIL, how many will continue to do so, and at the same level, if their contributions are redistributed among all schools? And I imagine top athletes at top schools would sue over that, because it inhibits them from profiting from their own valuable Name, Image, and Likeness.

A team needs 15 for practice. You can't just carry 10 and get the work in that you need. So somebody has to be out there doing the work to make others better...and hopefully getting better themselves as well. Anywhere you see a successful team, I guarantee you that the practice squad is also good! UNT needs to be bringing in young talented players, but we need a way to get them to stick around.

Sorry about the confusion. Have no idea where he's going. Wish he would consider us though.

I don't think they are leaving because of a coaching change. Heck, they probably haven't even talked to the new coach. They sure as heck have never worked out or practiced in front of him. They are leaving because an agent told them they have value (along with the other 1,943 kids in the portal), or because they didn't see the court. These kids today don't have any perseverance to fight for a spot. It happens every day...a guy who is all district and gets all the accolades comes out of HS to college, and for the first time in his life, enters a realm where the other guys at his position, are just as talented as he is. Its Prima Dona Syndrome.
