I haven't acted on this to this point but was inspired by @SUMG 's suggestion. I am considering donating to sport specific NIL's that would allow me to designate any money donated to players in sports that aren't getting a full ride scholarship. Not thinking of or excluding walk on players but instead partial scholarship players. Not directly related but see the attached blog that discusses proposed increases in scholarship and roster limits across the NCAA sport spectrum, starting in the 2025-26 school year. Not sure how NT will respond if these proposals are adopted but it would most obviously affect Olympic sport rosters at universities that don't increase their scholarship limits, NIL or not. That is just naivety on your part... The most ridiculous thing I ever read from people that were for NIL before it was initiated was hearing/reading people (on here and nationally) literally claiming they can't even afford toothpaste to brush their teeth. People fell for that and the like. It was ALWAYS about trying to get what people deemed to be from lower socioeconomic backgrounds (black kids) money. Or is honesty still taboo? Nevertheless, the attorneys were for it because it gave them cases. The sports media was for it because it gave them stories. The sports industry was for it because it gave them business. The minority of fans that were for it, the people who largely fund this garbage, are wholesale not for it any longer. But now, it's bigger than even them.

That strikes me as an odd grouping. Thanks for the article. It clears up a lot of things for me. Although I don't think this case will resolve much.

We may or may not agree on the “way for paying college players and allowing them to transfer,” but we are in complete agreement that we knew the current way isn’t it.

I was pro NIL and portal in my own personal belief of how it should work, not in the current state. I expected the current state so was and will always be against this current version. I think there's a way for paying college players and allowing them to transfer to work in the benefit of all but it'll require the NCAA and courts to put in some work. Hopefully that makes sense.

I think that this is now allowed through the NIL agents. Unfortunately.

Shoot, I'd argue that while I'm waiting for another pro contract, I want to work towards my degree and to do so, I need the athletic scholarship and since I still have eligibility, I should be allowed to get a scholarship and with that am entitled to NIL money. After all, this is all so the kids can earn their bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, right?

I thought Utah State was a reach for the PAC and their expansion. Small market. I think the PAC panicked and invited them in haste.

With so many of our girls hitting the portal this year, could this possibly be the reason? She did recruit Hardaway and some of the others that are leaving. Tez Dumars, who was on her staff at UNT is going to GCU as well.

Lawyers would argue that they have "NIL agents" not Professional agents, lol. Schools and players seem to be challenging all the rules now (about income), and courts are sympathetic. So, perhaps there will be a time soon when a school or player tests the re-signing of an athlete back to college in the same sport. They could argue he was trying to earn a career, but it didn't happen yet, and while waiting for another chance wants to continue his college sport eligibility. Some court would probably side with the athlete.

If it makes y'all feel any better, I work with a Baylor and Alabama grad who both refuse to donate to NIL. Obviously both schools have more than enough donors to make-up for the few who won't but there are fans of big programs who are over the NIL stuff, especially donating when they already paid their tuition to said schools.

Forfeiture of Eligibility: Once a player is considered a professional in a specific sport, they lose their eligibility to compete in that sport at the college level. Here's the thing, the NCAA considers a player a professional once they receive money for their athletic abilities. Once NIL moves in house, this summer I believe, it'll be hard for the NCAA to win the argument that a school isn't paying a player for their athletic abilities. I believe there's enough as is for somebody to win that argument in court since NIL collectives are school specific and they're even signing contracts now. Once somebody takes it to court and wins, pro players will be coming back to college to collect on NIL deals greater than their pro deals.

I heard Youmans say on the broadcast that Bearclaw and Simon were the first players we've had win back-to-back conference POTW awards since 2005. I think Conley made an argument to be the third consecutive. I think she ended up with 2 HR and 8 RBI this series.
