  1. Past hour
  2. NIL deals won't come with the kinds of pension, retirement, health care and disability benefits that NFL players receive under collective bargaining, particularly after playing three seasons.
  3. That's a good rule of thumb for the current era of college sports.
  4. I seem to recall fans supporting the general idea that players could finally earn some money. Maybe some also had opinions on transfers becoming a little easier. I don't recall anybody wanting a system like the present, where there are no limits and no responsibilities for players getting paid and it seems like everybody can transfer all the time, including players after the season and before the bowl games. College football is completely broken now. Don't know how it gets fixed.
  5. I’m one of them, but I never have and never will support them making millions of dollars. It’s not a career, it’s 4-5 years of your life designed to prepare you for your career. Plus, the players are NOT the attraction. I’m going to games to watch North Texas, not any specific player. People now say to “Cheer for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back,” but it’s basically been that way forever. I mean, we cheer for someone until they graduate, then we cheer for the next guy. We never stop being fans because a player graduates.
  6. It's still new so yes current is basically original. I know plenty of people who support players get paid beyond their scholarship and stipend but don't support the wild wild west as it has been implemented.
  7. Y'all are both missing the point. I'm just saying I can see a world where somebody takes the eligibility clock rule to court and wins.
  8. Yesterday
  9. Trey Lance playing I think 6 games during the Covid season at NDSU. Not sure why he was so highly rated after that small sample of his work. That is all he had on his resume.
  10. Deck to SMU. Must be the money.
  11. Every athlete's eligibility clock begins running once he enrolls in college. That's part of why Austin Aune had so much eligibility when he came to UNT. Despite his advanced age, he had never enrolled in a college.
  12. I think it’s reasonable from the standpoint that many on here supported it when it began. Some may say they don’t support the current version, but the current version is basically the original version so…
  13. When they realize there is always someone else with more money, the top 50 will soon become the top 40 and then the top 30 and then….
  14. I agree. I know 5 other alums that have not been contacted by Athletics in over 10 years, if ever. I don't think that our Athletics marketing or PR or whatever title they are now is reaching most NT alums, or Denton citizens, about Athletics. I don't know what they do with their time...organize luncheons? If this was a real business it would have few customers. Athletics at larger Brand programs sell themselves by being established and known on a National as well as local level. We aren't there yet to be on self serve by the AD. Also, there are plenty of school-detached transplants moving into the DFW area that we should approach, as well as our own alums...duh.
  15. If you expected chaos and still supported it then stupid meet dumb...
  16. I believe that was Hitzges interviewing Coach in this video. A very subdued version compared to his Ticket days. I want that warm up top the bench players are wearing at the 3:40 mark. GMG
  17. There is also a great story by Norm Hitzges on YouTube on one of the Blakeley seasons. WFAA also
  18. 1977 Road uniforms at UTA game on "The Stage".
  19. That game in the video was actually against Arkansas State (W 78-76, 1-17-77)....on a Monday night!! ....and Enrollment at NT then was only 17,000. The $mut home game was the following Saturday (1-22-77), as Coach Blakeley talks about it may be the last for awhile.
  20. "Yes." Next question.
  21. Exactly. Which is why I don't believe this question is reasonable. I'd imagine most fans never wanted this version of "NIL."
  22. Which ones will be in furry costumes and have dyed their hair purple by the end of the first fall semester?
  23. So are you saying that a coach should never leave their first head coaching job? If so, Ross should still be at Paris Junior College. I’ve said it a thousand times, but coaching is a career choice. Most coaches are going to move up the career ladder just like any other profession. I know it’s trending in the opposite direction, but playing college sports isn’t currently a career choice.
  24. They don't ask the majority of us for money. We're not hurting and have given plenty of indications that we should be asked, but I guarantee that no one from the Athletic Department knows my name. All those fundraising salaries on the Athletic Department P&L should probably start by taking the list of Hub Club seats and googling or searching their names on LinkedIn. It would at least be directionally accurate for steering them towards whom to ask for donations from. What's the worst thing that happens? They continue to raise $0 from me? Maybe we'll leave them money in our estate. My pride will be dead by then. There will be no need to feel like someone should at least ask me for money before I give it to them.
  25. We went from an average WR named Decoldest Crawford doing HVAC commercials in Nebraska to Nico Iamaleava demanding the Volunteers pay him $4 million to play very quickly.
  26. When a coach sets a bad example players will follow. Sad day for these young men. Poor leadership builds poor character in the next generation.
  27. Deseret = Utah = Mormons
